Day 36: D10 Skiway > Leningradskaya > Litell Rocks

Departing D10

After a two-day weather hold at D10, conditions finally improved enough for our next push forward. Today we reached two significant waypoints: the historic abandoned station of Leningradskaya, and our current position at Litell Rocks—a strategic point between Leningradskaya and Mario Zucchelli station.

Leningradskaya

Leningradskaya station was a Soviet Antarctic research station, located at 69°30′S 159°23′E (the north shore of Victoria Land, at the Oates Coast). It was opened on February 25, 1971 by the members of the 15th Soviet Antarctic Expedition. It closed in 1991, but during its lifetime was host to studies of meteorology, Earth magnetism, oceanology and glaciology. (Wikipedia)

Advancing Past Leningradskaya

The expedition continues to benefit from effective coordination with Antarctic stations and favorable weather windows, enabling us to maintain our progress while collecting crucial survey data along the continent’s grounding line. Our current position at Litell Rocks positions us well for the next phase of our journey.
